| Saturday, August 14, 2010 - Thank you | Hello!
We hope you are enjoying the remainder of your summer. It was nice to see everyone at the banquet and everyone had a great year. This year we gave out the most "Best Times" ribbons in many years. Great job to all of you who chose to compete in meets and had a great time doing so. If you have any questions on the criteria to achieve the different awards, they are indicated on the Flyers website in the dropdown category of "Parents" on the "Swimmer Award" page or you can talk with one of the board members. It is very much appreciated how patient everyone was this summer with a few bumps in the road with the construction. We were very fortunate we were able to use the pool and also to host meets there.
We would like to thank everyone for the successful coffee fundraiser. We raised almost $2000 from the coffee sales which is going towards the purchase of a Ultraviolet Light system for the pool at Kennedy Secondary School. We are only $3000 from the goal of $27,000, but we need to raise that $3000 by Friday, August 20 to get approval at the next school board meeting. If you know of someone or a group of people who may be willing to donate towards this project, please have them contact Richard Schara, at Richard.Schara@state.mn.us or Steve Mouritsen at Steve.Mouritsen@wellsfargo.com. This committee has been working very diligently to raise the funds toward this project, which will benefit those with asthma and eczema, as well as make it easier for everyone to breath easier whether they swim or are a spectator and it sanitizes the water to remove certain bacteria and fungi in the water that filtration systems cannot.
We would also like to thank those of you who participated in the "Pampered Chef" fundraiser with the proceeds going towards Coach Uvaas' lodging at the Jr. Nationals in which Mike (Donald) Hurley participated. They are having "great times". Mike had best times in all three of his events and finished 47th in the 100 Fly (56.96), 10th in the 100 Breast (1.05.11), and 18th in the 200 IM (2.08.14). These were multiple second time drops and there were well over 100 swimmers from the USA in every event. Great job to him and we wish them well on their way home.
Thank you to all of the swimmers and their families for a very fun and successful swim season.

| | Monday, June 14, 2010 - June 14 update | Thank you VERY much to all of the great volunteers at the meet this past weekend. Everyone contributed to the overall success of the meet. A big thank you to those at the control table of Nancy and Mike Reard for undertaking the task of learning to use the timing system; Eben Danielson and Randy Carlson for announcing; and Gene Fisher for running the computer. We had great officials with Al Pendergrass, Don Hurley, and Mary Lou Erickson. The concessions were well organized by Jana Emery and Michelle Hexum. We had excellent concession workers and timers who did a great job and we appreciate each persons dedication of time and talent. We really appreciate that everyone wore footwear to protect their feet during this time of construction so we did not have any injuries. Keep up the great work.
We hope everyone had fun. It sure looks like it by the great photos that Kirsten Danielson has posted on Shutterfly you can view by going to the Resources tab and clicking on swim photos. The photos show the swimmers in and out of the pool, as well as volunteers, coaches, and officials. Thank you Kirsten for taking these photos and posting them so promptly on our shutterfly account!
Just a reminder that you should have your child signed up for the meet tomorrow night (6/15). We will need volunteers for concessions and timing again. Please send an e-mail to flyers@fergusfallsswimming.org if you can either work at the concessions,be a timer, or are interested in becoming an official. There will be 25 yard events for all four strokes at this meet. Once a child is able to accomplish a 50 yard event in a stroke, they should not be doing the 25 yard event in that stroke. The 25's are to gain strength and technique because these are called developmental events. Please ask if you have any questions regarding events and age requirements for any certain event or the time standards.
The meet info to sign up for Grand Forks is posted. We will soon be registering for our meet on 6/23 so watch for this information within a weeks time. It is fun to have a meet a week again to keep the swimmers excited to see how they do and it also fosters a more unified team with the younger and the older swimmers who practice at different times of the day.
We hope you have a great day and we will see you at the swim meet Tuesday with warm ups at 4:15 and the meet starting at 5:30 pm.
